2020 Sucked, but Yay Christmas!

Merry Christmas from Hong Kong! Although this year might look a little different from years prior, we still wish you and your families from our family the warmest of holiday wishes!

After reopening on September 25, the park once again was closed on December 2 by the government because the rise of Covid cases here in Hong Kong. I had already performed my morning shows and was in the park with Lindsey when we got the news the park was closing that evening and would not be reopening til the cases went down. We quickly tried to get our last park day in, saying see you soon to the new castle, and the beautiful Christmas decorations. At least the 15 anniversary will (hopefully) be still going on when we do eventually open again. I was also really glad Mike was able to come celebrate Christmas in the park before it closed.

Even though the park is closed, there is a small amount of Disney holiday magic in visiting the pop up shop at Hysan Place mall in Causeway Bay-

The Disneyland Hotel is also open still with some holiday cheer including visits from Goofy (or other fab 5 characters) and the carol singers and of course the beautiful decorations-

We did make some time to stop by for the 15th Anniversary high tea, complete with all sorts of yummy foods and rose tea.
Some crowd favorites were (mostly the sweets)-
Mickey chocolate gelato (naturally had to be eaten first)
Scones with jam and clotted cream (applied in that order of course!)
the mixed berry mousse (LOOK MOM! I CAN FIT THE WHOLE CASTLE IN MY MOUTH!)
And the passion fruit with white chocolate mousse and the rose tea were also amazing.
A few savory favorites were the con carne chili tart...
and the omnipork tart.
Some still tasty, just not my favs were-
mushroom puff and seafood roll
We also ordered what we thought was a Minnie strawberry hot chocolate drink, which turned out to just be a very sugary, cold, strawberry milk with marshmallows. Although it was a little too aggressively sweet taste wise for me, it made for some adorable photos.
We had the best view for our tea with the sea in the window and the Christmas tree leaving us feeling magical. We had such a great time. Sigh, I love high tea.
Made me a little sad to see Disney so empty once again, but hopefully we will be back soon.
With roughly 100 new daily cases popping up, Mike and I have not gone out of our apartment much at all, which means LOTS of time for Christmas movies and treats!
If we do go out, it's for an outdoor activity, like hiking Dragons Back, which although is probably the most common hike in HK, I somehow managed to have never done it before now. It's also really nice to go hiking when it is not 100 degrees and incredibly humid.

We also went on a hike nearby called the Tai Lam Chung Reservoir Thousand Islands Lake Hike (mouthful much?). I enjoyed this one a lot because at the start of the hike there were a bunch of goats because of the goat farm nearby.
Usually I am one for not touching wild animals, but this one baby goat came right over to me and nuzzled its little face right into my hand, and I could not resist.
There were even some VERY new baby goats.
It took all my efforts to not pick them up and run away with them, they were so cute. The rest of the hike was still full of beautiful views, but I was missing the goats as we climbed higher.

Before everything went into full lock down, Mike and I also visited the driving range in Tuen Mun, which was a fun way spend sometime together outdoors, not to mention the insanely beautiful view!

Holiday shopping during Covid has been especially difficult this year, but somehow we managed to make it work. The shopping malls in HK take their Christmas mall displays very seriously, and on our hunt for a Christmas ham, we were lucky to see a few of the cutest ones, and get some special holiday goodies.
There are also some lights hung around our neighborhood, where we spent the day (mildly trespassing) to visit with hot cocoa in hand and music playing on our phones in our pockets to get into the Christmas spirit.
On Christmas Eve Eve, we went on a date that may become a new tradition because I loved it. We went to all the various fast food places in walking distance and had a feast with all our finds!
Christmas Eve was spent doing some food prep for Christmas Day. We had a zoom call with my family where we did our gift exchange and played some games. We also enjoyed eating some homemade Chicken Gnocchi and Broccoli Cheese Soups, with apple crisp for dessert, all while watching Home Alone 2
We also decorated the Worlds Smallest Oreo Gingerbread House. It was literally like 1 inch wide and 1 inch long, I needed tweezer to do it, but still so fun.
On actual Christmas day, we spent most of the day eating (shocking, I know). Starting the morning off with a sausage casserole, mimosas, and homemade orange cinnamon rolls!
We also began the day finishing our advent calendar, with Tinkerbell at the top.
One of the most important traditions on Christmas Day for me is reading the Nativity story of Jesus' birth, and we act it out with the nativity figurines. Here in HK, we don't have a nativity scene, so we had to improvise. We also had my mom reading the story to us, making it extra special.
We had some lovely inspiration from my grandma's homemade card <3
After, we did some stockings and gifts-
We gifted ourselves with Duffy and Shellie Mae and now we have the whole family (Olu is back home in New York).
We snacked on a beautiful spread while we spent most of the rest of the day cooking with our friend Lindsey-
Dinner was delicious! We had ham, corn casserole, potato casserole, broccoli cheese casserole, stuffing, and rolls.
Dessert had just as many options, complete with pumpkin pie and homemade whipped cream, chocolate yule log, mince pies, cookies and treats sent from home.

We finished the night out watching the new Pixar film, Soul on Disney+ before zooming with Mike's side of the family (and Amy!), and finally finishing the night with a walk, just like we did when Mike first visited Hong Kong at Christmas time in 2015.

2015 babies-
2020-
Merry Christmas, friends! But more importantly, have a safe and Happy New Year!
