i thought i was just really tired but its been like 5 years so i guess this is how i look now
On one of our many hot days off, Mike and I discovered a very local spot to go paddle boating at Luk Tin Yuen. It reminded me of when we went paddle boating in NYC, but more koi fish. When paddle boating comes to Olympics, however, we will be ready.
The place also had a place to visit some animals, some fun activities for kids, photo spots and a BBQ area.
I have weirdly enjoyed watching the Olympics while being in another country. In Asia, everything is a mall, and while you're walking around the malls, usually the Olympics are being shown on the big tvs, where everyone cheers on their HK athletes together. You really feel the country come together, it's a cool feeling.
Since we cannot travel to all these countries we are watching compete in the Olympics, we decided to continue our mini vacations to nowhere with start at trip our new favorite Thai place, Thai Market. The decor and weather made it feel like we were actually in Thailand.
We also had a brief visit to Greece when we had lunch at my favorite lunch set spot, Santorini-
and Italy...or California for some pizza at the new California Pizza Kitchen-
and more pizza at Mother of Pizza's -
and dessert at the Amalfi Coast at Crust where we got our favorite Italian treat, a sfoigatelle-
From there, our journey took us to Mexico for Fred's birthday!
We also had a homemade Mexican for an impromptu taco Tuesday-
We then took a little side trip to Korea for some Korean BBQ-
After our trip to Korea, we rode the ding ding through the city and a drink at Please Don't Tell where laughed more than I have ever laughed in my life.
And I know you will all be surprised to hear, more brunch was had! one of the highlights being chicken and waffles from Green Waffle-
We also had a yummy dim sum experience at Yum Cha where it's encouraged to play with your food-
Also, huge shout out to Cinnabon coming to HK and the amazing lady behind the counter who put extra frosting on my cinnamon roll to ensure I would have the largest sugar coma ever!-
However, it was literally because of this cinnamon roll right here we had a cute little Covid scare. We had one local case in all of HK in the last few months, and the person just so happened to visit the mall we were at at the same time. We use an app in HK to checkin to different locations for contract tracing, and we got a notification on our app later that week alerting us of the situation, and requiring us to get tested. I am tested every 9 or so days with Disney, but we usually get to do a spit test. This time, we were required to do the nasal and throat swab test 3 times in a span of one day to be sure we were negative before I could return to work. Very grateful for negative results, but it was an extremely stressful 24 hours.
Scare aside, life in HK has been about as normal as it is going to get for the next few years I imagine. We were given an opportunity to have our eyelashes done, which we had never done before, but it was quite the experience.
Wearing lashes everyday in our job it's nice to take a break from having to put them on, and they are just already there.
Thanks Lashes Mo La'De!
Another fun adventure was our visit the HK Science Museum, where they currently have an exhibit on Pixar Animation, which was really (busy) but fun to explore-
Our other big, day adventure was taking the ferry to one of the smaller islands to explore and wander around. Peng Chau is a car-less island and perfect for an afternoon visit.
We stopped at Hoho Kitchen for their signature pineapple sweet bun filled with ice cream, which was so yum! We also got a dong ling mat (honey ice lemon drink) and HK's famous deep fried peanut butter french toast.
While there, we went on a small hike where we found Fisherman's Rock and some private little beach areas, where directly across the water you can see the Disney Resort Hotels-
There were a lot of temples on this island as well, but the Seven Sisters Temple was my favorite-
We also visited Tin Hau Temple-
The Leather Factory on Peng Chau was not what I expected at all. It used to be a leather factory, but after outsourcing, it became a beautiful secret garden art installation.
But with all this adventuring, don't worry, there is still plenty of swim time-
Stay cool out there folks, it's a hot one.
