the sea is calling- answer it royally
Oh look, I am on another cruise! This was my first Royal Carribbean cruise though, and I was very excited to board the Utopia. It's currently the biggest ship in the world, and it definitely felt like it!
This ship was absolutely massive, it's called the "World's Biggest Weekend" ship for a reason. With 17 waterslides, 1 dry deck giant slide, zip-lining, rock climbing, stage and ice shows, and 40 different ways to dine, there was no way to experience it all.My favorite part was right in the middle a green space called Central Park where little nature sounds would play, and at night it would get all twinkly.
Anyways, when I boarded the ship I was starving and looking for a little snack. I ended up at the beautiful boardwalk area, complete with a carousel, and grabbed a hot dog.
and the famous royal kummelweck sandwich from the Central Park cafe.
Next on the to do list was report to my mandatory check in at my muster station, in case there was an emergency, we'd be prepared. My muster was the gym, which was great since that was the only time I'd want to see it, haha. It was incredibly nice looking though, and spanned the entire ship width.
I made up for not going to the gym by finding the most important spot on the ship, Sprinkles, the ice cream station. It was chocolate, vanilla, and twist all day, but you can also add sprinkles, and I must do as the name commands!
Walking past the pool area was also a little food truck with snacks out during the day. I liked the deep fried cheesecake spring rolls.
Very disappointed in myself for not doing any of the water slides, but it's a little different cruising on your own.
Next I wandered to find my room. I was on the 8th deck in 8508, once again right at the front of the ship, basically driving it. My room was quite nice and my stateroom attendant was very friendly.
My view out the window-
That window is me at the very front-
The main pool deck always had a DJ and some kind of loud party going on, which personally just wasn't my vibe for this trip, so I adventured into the solarium, where there was a beautiful sunset. It became my daily place to read my book and have a dip in the hot tub.
That night for dinner, the team got together to meet up and get to know each other a bit before work day the next day. We had an early start to get off the ship to start our Perfect Day at CocoCay shoot. We took the tram over to the entrance of the water park, and you all know I love a parking tram!
Since the island is located in the Bahamas, there is a lot of fun wildlife around. There are chickens scurrying around the water park!
I wanted to see and iguana so badly, and I got lucky when we moved deeper into the island to the private club cabana area and saw a couple!
These private cabanas were no joke though. They were basically the Maldives. The water was crystal clear, it was a beautiful day, and when we finished working there we got to hang out for a bit.
After all work and no play... we boarded back on the ship for some down time. I grabbed my favorite little lunchy spot at El Loco Fresh for a little pick me up before I did my usual wind down time at the solarium.Dinner with the crew that evening was at Playmakers Sports Bar, a Royal Carribbean staple. The very hot (temperature wise) chicken sandwich was my favorite thing I ate on board, and of course the warm s'mores cookie with milk and ice cream was right up there with it.After dinner, we watched the amazing Aqua 80too show which features incredible dancers, swimmers, divers, and acrobatics. I took some really horrible photos, but I would recommend just watching the show HERE.
After Aqua show was the main stage All In! pop-musical review style show. This show features a large amount of dancers, 4 vocalists, aerialists, and even a few drones, performing a 45 minute entertainment review. Watch HERE or feel free to look at my terrible photos-
Later in the week I also watched the ice skating show, You Topia, which was crazy to me that these people were able to do the flips and jumps and turns on a moving ship on ice skates, wild. Watch it HERE. Next day was another idle day, but we docked at Nassau in the Bahamas. There were 5 ships in this port this day so it was pretty crowded everywhere. I dipped through the straw market on my way back to our ship to see a friend.
I saw the Disney Wish was docking in port too so I got to see my Hong Kong buddy Juanita and chat with her for over an hour! It was one of the highlights of the whole trip for me.When I got back on board, I figured it was finally time to conquer my fear of the- The Ultimate Abyss, a 259 ft dry slide that drops 10 decks below.
Next day was another working day, and we arrived back at CocoCay nice and early again. We took our tram back to our starting location, which was the hideaway private beach cabana (hard life I know).I was positioned in a lounge chair calling cues out to actors, so I literally could not have had it better. And the chickens were around to keep me company, so win win.
I hopped off the ship for a quick little self journey to do a small walk over to the Queen's Staircase. Built by 600 enslaved people, the Queen's Staircase was carved from solid limestone rock between 1793 and 1794. It provided a direct route from the city center to Fort Fincastle, a battery that guarded the entrance to Nassau Harbor, which was a hub for piracy and geopolitical intrigue at the time. The staircase area was really beautiful and almost reminded me of HK.
The fort on the other hand was just kind of a vendor market now, so I did a little quick walk around.I saw the Disney Wish was docking in port too so I got to see my Hong Kong buddy Juanita and chat with her for over an hour! It was one of the highlights of the whole trip for me.When I got back on board, I figured it was finally time to conquer my fear of the- The Ultimate Abyss, a 259 ft dry slide that drops 10 decks below.
The slide has some lights inside and you only go up to speeds of 9 miles an hour, but the thing I thought was so cool was the mat you sit on also has a pocket at the bottom to put your bags or stuff in, so it goes down with you. It was pretty fun and I am so glad I did it. I still had to get myself a little treaty for being so brave though.
For dinner that night we had a team meet up again at Izumi, the Japanese restaurant. Since I don't do sushi, I had the tonkotsu ramen, so you all know I wasn't upset.
After dinner I planned to walk the track, but I got stopped by the Aqua show happening again, and got drawn in and decided to watch it again from a different perspective. Next day was another working day, and we arrived back at CocoCay nice and early again. We took our tram back to our starting location, which was the hideaway private beach cabana (hard life I know).
Bianca also kept me company and we treated ourselves to ice cream after the shot, so win win WIN!
We had one more shot on the bridge before we wrapped up the whole project and celebrated all together!
It had always been a dream of mine to get on a Royal ship, so bucket list item checked! How did I get so lucky to land these awesome opportunities. I really don't know. Some of the other projects I have been working on recently were filming over at Universal Epic Universe but I can't say anymore other than I am excited. Additionally, I had my first project of officially becoming a 2nd Assistant Director for a Disney shoot. I was very grateful to some folks for believing in me to take this huge next step and hoping for more chances in the future!
