a certain darkness is needed to see the stars
Starting this post off with some exciting news... Remember back in March 2021 when we decided to go home, and then I ended up extending my contract here in HK and switching over from shows to outside? Well, here we are saying those famous last words of we have officially extended one last time (for real this time!) and will be sticking around in HK til Spring 2023, rounding up our time here at an even 3 years.
With Amy getting married next Summer in the UK, and our plans to travel after her wedding, it just made more sense for us to stay put doing what we love for a bit longer. Big hugs to our family who have been so patient and understanding and we can't wait to hug you all in the Spring. In the mean time, we are happy to get to make some more memories with my friends here.
Covid has been a thing now for well over 2+ years, and here in HK we are finally seeing some progress. The same day it was announced that Singapore was taking over HK as Asia's top financial city, HK interestingly made some big changes. Although we still have to wear masks in and outdoors at all times, unless actively exercising outside, and we are still technically only allowed to be in groups of 12 now at a time, now you may enter the country without having to quarantine in a hotel. Instead, there is an app we use called Leave Home Safe, and when you arrive in the country your app will be yellow for 3 days. During those three days you are not allowed to enter restaurants, theme parks, and a few other venues, and are meant to self monitor any possible symptoms. Once your 3 days are done, you can go about the country as everyone else does. The other big change is if you do contract Covid, you are now allowed to isolate at home instead of a government facility. It may feel like HK is very far behind in allowing these things now, and we are, but the freedom we now feel to be able to finally leave the country and come back if needed is great. It also now means if anyone wants to come visit us, now is the time!
Ironically I wrote that whole paragraph above before the most exciting news this month, which is after avoiding Covid the last 3 years, it finally got me. I had a little tickle in my chest and a small cough and knew some others I had been around recently were also feeling unwell. My rapid tests were all coming back negative, but I got the positive PCR result back on Sun Oct 2 which had confirmed what I had been feeling. The first day I had a horrible headache, cough, sore throat, chills, and muscle aches. By the second day the headache had calmed down thankfully, but the cough was the most annoying part. My second day Mike also tested positive, and slowly began showing symptoms.
We spent the week napping and watching movies, but the hardest part is that our room does not get any sun and our windows don't open in the building we live in, so the lack of fresh air was incredibly difficult.
If you followed along with my back in 2020 when I arrived, you'll remember my big, chonky tracker wristband the government provided me with to make sure I am staying in my room, and this new and improved version is way smaller. They also gave us some rapid tests, masks, a thermometer, an oximeter, some Pandol, Chinese medicine, and a lovely packet of information we could not read with 0 English.
In order to leave isolation, you have to have 2 negative rapid tests in a row. Finally, Cassidy tested negative on day 9 and the same day, Mike tested negative, but on his day 8. We finally were able to go outside the day after that. Really annoyed to have finally been caught by Covid, but glad we will have a little more immunity for the holiday season. We celebrated by having a day at the beach and enjoying the fresh air.
On other news, Halloween is in full swing here at Hong Kong 🇭🇰 Disneyland, and although it is still 95 degrees every day, we are having the best time. HKDL is still doing no parades and socially distanced meet and greets. We are also still closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays unless there is a holiday or something special.
Some new villain friends have arrived to add a little trick to your treat. Maleficent and I are having the best time sharing stories about reading bed time stories to Princess Aurora and invitations to Let's Get Wicked.
Speaking of Let's Get Wicked, although I am not hanging out with Mother Gothel this year, there has been some cool changes to the show that you can check out HERE.
Cruella De Vil was also so evil, they had to kick her out of Let's Get Wicked and put her outside for her own show.
The Tremaine Step Family has finally graced HKDL with their presence, and Lady Tremaine has been doing her best to keep her daughters (and step daughter) under control, reminding them to maintain their Grace and Poise so Cinderella may invite them to the castle (some highlights HERE).
Back in the real world, for Mike's birthday, he wanted to go golfing on this beautiful island, and he had a really great time. Check out his full day HERE!
We also took advantage of the summer time to hike to Ham Tin Beach, which is a pretty lengthy hike. We thought there was a ferry back so we didn't mind, but since the waves were too high we ended up having to hike the whole thing back too. It was a beautiful day though and the water temperature was absolutely perfect.
We also did our final junk boat of the season, and possibly ever. It was a perfect day, and we had the best time lounging, banana boating, and sliding all day.
and finished with a gelato from Gelato Go to cool down!
Scarlet, Amy, and I treated ourselves to a little Mr. Wolf brunch before iconic pedicures at Amy and I's favorite spot-We saw the rerelease of Avatar in 4D in preparation for the new one coming out in December, and it was amazing. Highly recommend!
We also got to look at some wedding dresses with our bride and had the best day. I am so glad she is here so we can experience these fun wedding things together!
Also, thinking about those effected by Hurricane Ian back home, and so glad it seems most of my friends and family have come out unharmed <3
