get out of bed! do the things! own your life!
With Easter, usually comes the madness of Spring Break. Mike's family usually visits South Carolina around their Spring Break, and it just so happened to work out that we could drive the seven hours to meet them for a little Spring Break vacations ourselves.
We stayed in an air bnb at Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms, which definitely makes you feel like you're out on a beachy island, with not a whole lot around. The air bnb was a beautiful coastal home, 5 minutes walk from the beach.
The drive, which is usually about 6.5 hours, turned into about 8 because Mike and I left right after work into rush hour traffic. However, we drove the new car for it's first roadtrip, and she did so well!
We tried to make it fun with a stop at Buc-ees, which we had never been to before, but seems to be an icon of the South. We personally felt like we were in a Don Don Donki, but didn't really get the hype.
But I did have my first Taco Bell in about 4 years, which was exciting! We finally made it pretty late that evening, and went to bed immediately. The next day, the weather was terrible. It was rainy and extremely windy, with highs in the 50s. We tried to make the most of it by just pretending it wasn't happening with a beach walk.
We ended up doing a lot of indoor activities and board games instead.
We also went out for a few Southern meals to pass the rainy time. We visited Raising Canes -But the real winner in my book was Vicious Biscuit, where we had the fat boy.A buttermilk biscuit, crispy fried chicken breast, our signature pimento cheese with Vicious spicy honey drizzle.
The next morning we also went out for donuts. We tried Joey Bag A Donuts, where Mike and I had a boston cream donut with maple frosting-
and then we tried BKedShop, where we had an orange-rhubarb donut and the real winner, a blueberry-lavendar latte. The other dining adventure was at Poe's Tavern, where the onion straws were so good.
The sun did finally make it's way out to us, but we had to watch it rise first. It was a very chilly morning on the dark beach, but the sunrise provided us some really beautiful, and worthwhile colors.
We also got lucky with some pretty sunsets too!
There is no shortage of wildlife on the isle. We saw soo many turtles, and quite a few alligators! There were starfish, and a ton of jellyfish.
We also were lucky enough to see some dolphins swimming near us.One of my favorite things to do at Wild Dunes though was bike around the grounds, on the beach, and visit the old Charleston trees.
I also really enjoyed our family walks.
And we can't forget the hot tub time!It was a nice trip to get away for a minute, and Mike was sad to be driving home. We did our little stop off for some Florida orange juice to cheer him up, and it won't be long before we see them all again.Back home in Orlando we attended the Seven Seas Food Festival at SeaWorld and got our punch lanyard fill of all the tasty treats. All the highlights as listed:
Fried pickles with Texas petal sauce
Smoked lamb ribs
Passion Fruit Cupcake, Passion Liqueur, Peach Schnapps Mousse, White Chocolate Straw
walking gyro with pita chips and Tzatziki sauce (not great) and grilled lamb chop (super great!)
chicken tikka masala
boudin balls- Cajun Rice Balls with Ground Pork & Chicken, Remoulade Sauce
bougie donut- Vanilla Donut, Strawberry Glaze, Strawberry Butter Cream (so delicious!)
picanha steak Cilantro Chimichurri, Three Bean Salad and Pão de Queijo-Brazilian Cheese Bread, Guava Dipping Sauce
Ricotta cheese calzone
Rum Cake-Chipotle Ancho Adobo Chicken, Pineapple, Cabbage, Onion, Cilantro al pastor taco and Dulce de Leche Mini Cake
We also saw Gavin Degraw, and he was such a wonderful entertainer!
Mike and I also got to witness the partial eclipse while at work together! Super cool.
In other home news, we finally had a garage sale and made some bonus cash back on items this man left behind. It was exciting to have some space in the garage finally, but also we got to meet some of our neighbors, which was so lovely. One even fixed our broken light!
In between my several production gigs, regular Seaworld job, and house projects, I do occasionally get out. We have had a few friends over to see the house, and I even got to go to a friends going away party at Hawkers, who is heading out to my old stomping grounds in Hong Kong!
We met Bethany and Logans new pupper, Lulu, who is a little piece of love!
Hoping it won't be long before we get our own little fluff ball, but in the meantime I will have to continue to just love on every one elses.
